STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS

• Manish Kumar, Santhosh Kumar B., Santhosh P. and Sathyanarayanan S. won the TCS- Best Project Award - 2011 for their project titled Customizable Keyboard less Keyboard.


• Balagopal R. of 2010 batch was awarded the Huygens Scholarship in May 2010 and also an opportunity to complete a two years Masters’program at Vrije University (VU) in Amsterdam.


• Gowtham S., RamKishore M. V., Suriya P. and Raghunath N. of 2010 batch won the TCS Best Project Award – 2010 for their project titled CMMS - Cloud Management and Monitoring Suite.


• Divya Natesan of 2009 batch won the Best Student Performer Award of the Indian Internship Programme 2009 by Infosys, Mysore on 20th May 2009.


• Gowtham S. of 2008 batch has been recognized by The Hindu paper dated 28th May 2010, Coimbatore edition, for the article Introduction of new Calligraphy style (Ambigrams) to Tamil language.


• Mr. Praveen Kumar R., Mr. Ragesh R. Santhanam and Mr. Srivathsan K. of 2006 batch won the Microsoft Best Project Prize. The prize which carries a citation and cash prize of Rs. 75,000/-, was given for their project entitled iTRUST – An End to End Trust Based Model for Access Control.

• Dr. C. Shunmuga Velayutham won the Best Faculty Award – 2010 of Cognizant- Amrita University.


• Prof. P. N. Kumar received best paper award for paper titled Financial Market Analysis of Bombay Stock Exchange using an Agent Based Model at IEEE International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Computing Research in December 2010.


• Asst. Prof. G. Jeyakumar was nominated as reviewer for International Journal on Computer Science Issues, September 2010.


• Dr. T. R. Padmanabhan, Professor Emeritus - IT inaugurated student chapters of Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) at PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore and Coimbatore Institute of Technology.

• Mr. Prashant R. Nair, Vice-Chairman-IT, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, has served as a reviewer and scientific committee member for the International Association for Development of the Information Society (IADIS) International Conference on WWW/Internet 2009 held at Rome in November, 2009. He has also been elected as the Joint Secretary of the Coimbatore chapter of Computer Society of India for the period 2009-2010.


• Mrs. S. Padmavathy and Mrs. K. R. Bindu conducted a one-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on Data Structures & Object Oriented Programming at PA College of Engineering and Technology, Pollachi on July 9, 2009.


• Mrs. S. Padmavathy conducted a one-day workshop on "Binary Search Trees"a GRG School of Applied Computer Technology, Coimbatore on 25 September, 2009. She also conducted a workshop on Analysis of Algorithms at PA College of Engineering and Technology, Pollachi on September 19, 2009.


• Mrs. S. Padmavathy was a resource person for a one-day workshop on Soft Computing for Researchers on 10th October, 2009 at Dr. Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology, Pollachi.


• Mrs. K. R. Bindu conducted a seminar on Templates and Exception Handling in C++ at PA College of Engineering and Technology, Pollachi on 3rd October, 2009.


• Mr. Raghesh Krishnan represented the University for Infosys Insight V2.0 at Mahindra City campus, Chennai on 22nd and 23rd September, 2009.


• Ms. S. N. Jeyanthi was a resource person for a seminar on "Artificial Intelligence"at MP Nachimuthu N Jaganathan Engineering College, Erode on 17th November, 2009.


• Mrs. S. Padmavathi and Mr. Arun Kumar C conducted a one-day workshop on "Network Security and Image Processing" at Erode Sengunthar Engineering College on 20th October, 2009.


• Mr.G. Jeyakumar and Dr.C.Shunmugha Velayutham, Asst. Professors won the best paper award for the paper titled An Empirical Comparison of Differential Evolution Variants for High Dimensional Function Optimization, presented at International Conference on Intelligent Agents and Multi-Agent Systems (IAMA 2009), Organized by Aarupadai Veedu Institute of Technology, Vinayaka Missions University, Chennai, India during July 2009.


• Prof. Dr. Latha Parameswaran won merit award for best paper on A Robust Image Watermarking Scheme using Image Moment Normalization, presented at the 13th International Conference on Signal Processing, Budapest, Hungary, May 2006.


• Ms. Hema P. Menon, Asst. Professor won the second rank in M. Tech. (Computer Vision and Image Processing) during April 2005.

• A workshop on Image Processing and Matlab Programming was organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering for the Medical Informatics students of AIMS, Kochi from March 17 - 20, 2010.

• As part of Village Adoption Programme students of the Department visited a government school at CG Pudur on October 15, 2009 and celebrated Diwali with the children. Sweets and Stationary for the children were distributed during the program.


• D. Venkatraman, Asst. Professor (CSE), V. Adinarayanan, Asst.Professor (IT), V. Smrithirekha, Lecturer(CSE) and faculty members of MSW department jointly organized a one day workshop on Technology for Social Welfare"09, on October 9, 2009.


• Prof. P. N. Kumar, Professor and Chairperson (CSE) attended workshop on Insight Ver 2.0 during September 22 - 23, 2009 at Infosys Development Centre, Chennai.


• Ms. P. Malathi, Ms. P. Subathra, Ms. T. Bagyammal, and Ms. K. Abirami, Lecturers attended a two day national level workshop on J2EE and Best Practices in Programming during September 19 - 20, 2009 organized by ICTACT at Anna University, Trichy.


• G. R. Ramya, Asst. Professor attended Faculty Development Programme on ORACLE 10g on September 19, 2009 organized by KGiSL-IIM, Coimbatore.


• V.Ananthanarayanan, Asst. Professor organized and conducted a one day workshop on Embedded Wireless Technologies sponsored by IETE Coimbatore center, for the benefit of final year and pre final year students of B. Tech. (ECE, EIE, EEE, CSE and IT) on September 13, 2009.


• As part of Village Adoption Programme students of the Department visited a government school at CG Pudur on August 14, 2009 and celebrated Independence Day with 100 ODD children at the school. Sweets, Stationary and note books worth Rs. 3000/- were distributed. Various competitions like Tamil elocution, fancy dress and sports were also conducted and prizes worth Rs. 2000/- were given.


• Ms.V. Smrithirekha Adinarayanan, Lecturer, attended International Workshop on Technology for Education held in Bangalore during August 4 - 6, 2009.


• Dr. Radha Guha, Associate Professor attended a session chair for the First International Conference on Computational Intelligence, Communication Systems and Network, held during July 23-25, 2009.


• Hema. P. Menon, Asst. Professor organized a workshop on Matlab during July 20 - 22, 2009 for the Medical Informatics Students at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences Cochin , M. Tech. CVIP students at Amrita school of Engineering Ettimadai & Faculty Members.

• A three day workshop on Image Processing Techniques sponsored by Tata Consultancy Services under AMRITA TCS-Sangam Intiative was organized from January 5 - 7, 2009 which is a part of MoU signed between Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and Tata Consultancy Services.
